The Masterson Method®
The Masterson Method® is a specialized, hands-on bodywork technique designed to enhance a horse’s physical and mental well-being.
Developed by Jim Masterson, it focuses on releasing tension in the horse’s muscles and connective tissues, improving flexibility, and restoring natural movement patterns.
Unlike traditional approaches that may rely on force or manipulation, the Masterson Method® works gently, following the horse’s own body feedback to achieve results safely and effectively.
Through precise assessments and targeted releases, Masterson Method® Certified Practitioners (MMCPs) help horses overcome stiffness, asymmetry, and performance-limiting tension.
By addressing both subtle and obvious restrictions, this method not only supports athletic performance but also promotes overall comfort and long-term musculoskeletal health.
The benefits of the Masterson Method® are profound. Horses typically experience increased suppleness, better balance, and smoother, freer movement. Behavioral improvements are also common, as horses feel more relaxed, confident, and willing to engage with their riders.
Whether for competition, training, or general well-being, the Masterson Method® provides a holistic approach that enhances performance, prevents injury, and strengthens the partnership between horse and rider.

Competiton
This method benefits sport horses by releasing restrictions in the shoulders, back, and hindquarters, improving range of motion and biomechanics for impulsion and balance. This promotes recovery, reduces compensatory tension that can cause injury, and enhances balance and coordination, supporting peak performance while preserving athletic longevity.

Leisure/Retired
It also helps leisure and retired horses by releasing chronic tension and improving gentle mobility in the back, shoulders, and hindquarters. It encourages relaxation, eases stiffness, and supports comfort in daily movement, helping horses stay happy, active, and healthy in light work or retirement.
